In an effort to help over 180 people, we have redefined our campaign goal!
The campaign has been extended to include a new bonus round! Together, let’s see just how many lives we can change!
Our new goal is set at R2.2 million – every donation, no matter the size, can make a great impact.
To maximise the impact of your generosity, we introduce Matchers – generous individuals committed to doubling every donation made during this campaign. Together, we aim to triple the power of your giving, removing the panic and stress to truly benefit our community.
Founded by Rabbi Ari Hoppenstein and Rabbi Shaun Wingrin, SOSA, a registered nonprofit organisation, is driven by a team of engineers who think outside the box to address healthcare challenges. It was first established to offer assistance to hundreds of elderly individuals (over 60s) who live outside communal care facilities. The SOSA Medical project, launched in 2020, extends support to numerous individuals in the community, covering the premiums of basic Medical Aid Hospital Plans for those in need.
SOSA takes a holistic approach, collaborating with multiple medical aid companies and medical aid brokers to cater to unique cases. They assist with cases involving higher premiums, arrange consultations with doctors and specialists, and have been instrumental in coordinating fundraisers for critical medical cases requiring immediate treatment. Their unique kosher food assistance program supports patients in public hospitals, ensuring decent meals, transportation, and medication. The SOSA team not only acts as a valuable sounding board, providing advice and support, but also extends its assistance to expatriates, helping them manage their families and friends’ medical aids back in South Africa.
We invite you to donate and share the campaign. Your contribution can help keep individuals out of public hospitals, providing them with the dignity of private healthcare – timely treatment, when they need it. Your support ensures that when healthcare is required, it’s available, and it will make a big difference in the lives of those in dire need.
The public healthcare system faces numerous challenges, including long wait times and shortages. These issues can negatively impact individuals’ health and recovery, causing anxiety and distress.
Assisting the less fortunate with Medical Aid Hospital Plans is a priority for SOSA Medical, with a focus on the elderly and those with comorbidities. Currently, SOSA Medical helps 80 people. The campaign aims to assist an additional 100 or more individuals by the end of the year. By participating in our Bonus Round, your contribution will provide immediate hospital cover, ensuring access to timely and dignified healthcare – helping us realize our goal of aiding more than 180 people in our community.

We recognise that during these challenging times in Israel, many donors may already be supporting several crucial causes and resources could be spread thin. However, in our ongoing commitment to aid our community, we have chosen to proceed with the campaign, as we firmly believe that extending support to an additional 100 individuals remains an important and valuable goal. Here’s to always seeking a brighter future for our community – locally, abroad, and in Israel.
